VERY long story short, I’ve got a website (let’s pretend just for easy example purposes that I’m launching https://www.duolingo.com) that’s going to be launching soon.
I’m following what seems to be the rather popular model of:
Launch a “hype” site i.e. mostly an informational pre-site of sorts that gets visitors excited about the real website in development
Use the “hype” site to gather email addresses, build up a mailing list of potentially interested users, and keep these users engaged via newsletter while the real site is being built
Launch a Kickstarter shortly after the “hype site” launches, to fund development of the majority of the real site
If Kickstarter is successful, develop real site
Launch real site
Obviously, even if you are fortunate enough to have a wildly successful Kickstarter, that’s still one-and-done cash. You haven’t built a reliable source of MRR.
One of the ways that I would be interested in building up MRR would be to partner with potential company/organization/etc sponsors. Basically in exchange for $a monthly, here is list x, y, z of exclusive benefits you’re now entitled to. Without going into detail about the site, has anyone had experience attempting something similar to this?
With whatever detail you’re comfortable with, could you briefly explain your success/failure story?
